MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Hot Cross Buns
 Categories:
      Yield: 1 Servings

  1 1/2 c Milk
    1/4 c Shortening
      6 tb Sugar
      1 ts Yeast
      1 ts Sugar
      1 Egg
2/3 c Currants and raisins; mixed
      1 qt Flour
    1/2 ts Salt
      1 ts Cinnamon

Scald milk, shortening and sugar; cool to
lukewarm. Mash yeast with sugar, add to milk. Add
egg, currants and raisins. Sift flour, salt and
cinnamon; add to mixture. Knead till smooth and
elastic, as for bread; let rise in a warm place
free of drafts, till very light. Divide into
rounds a little larger than biscuits; work till
smooth. Place on greased baking pan a little ways
apart. Let rise again till light. With a sharp
knife, make a cross on each bun. Bake in a 350°.
degree oven until nearly done. Brush each bun with
some milk, sprinkle with sugar and return to oven
for a moment or two until fully baked.
Traditionally these are made during Lent, but they
  are good anytime.
